SPHERE is an evidence-based educational project aimed at
increasing the rate of identification, effective treatment and
management of common psychological disorders in primary care.
SPHERE education is developed in collaboration with the Brain &
Mind Research Institute and is produced and administered by
Lifeblood (formerly Educational Health Solutions).
SPHERE is one of the most widely accessed sources of mental
health education for general practitioners. Since 1998 SPHERE has
reached over 12,000 general practitioners nationally.
In 2010 new and revised programs and materials will be offered
which will help general practitioners meet Level 1 and Level 2
training requirements. In recognition of the importance a
team-based approach has in the management of mental health
conditions, for the first time SPHERE will also offer complementary
programs for other members of the primary care team. The role of
the practice nurse continues to expand to support a wider range of
primary care services. In response, new programs will be offered
developed specifically for their supporting role in managing mental
health conditions.
